I visited the embassy in London – 6 Chandos Street, Marylebone, W1G 9LU.

Before travelling to London you need to print off the application form – make sure you print it DOUBLE SIDED, as the man at the counter made me fill in a new one as I had just printed it on two sheets.

I had been informed by other volunteers you need to submit the application by 9am, this was impossible as I was travelling from Bristol, another volunteer said she was sure it was 11am, this was do able for me, unfortunately though my coach was 30 minutes late & I arrived at 11.30am, nothing was said, so I am assuming this is ok, but be warned they close from 12 ~ 2pm & are open Monday to Friday !!

I thought the payment details online were for if you posted your application, this is not the case, YOU MUST make your payment before you visit the embassy,  I had to dash to Barclays (worst bank in the world for long queuing times) Currently the visa costs £65, the bank details are

You need to provide your receipt along with your passport, a passport photo, a letter/’invitation’ from the place you are volunteering, proof of your flight details, proof of your insurance & your application form.

They say you can pick up the visa between 4 & 5pm, I arrived at 3.45 & my visa was ready !!

If you have an English passport & you are visiting South Africa for less than 3 months ~ YOU DON’T NEED A VISA
