IFAW 2018 ANIMAL ACTION INTERNATIONAL CONSERVATION AWARD
FORMED IN 2014, ORANGUTAN VETERINARY AID (OVAID) IS A ZERO SALARY, VOLUNTARY RUN CHARITY WHICH PROVIDES VETERINARY EQUIPMENT, MEDICINES AND PRACTICAL VETERINARY PRESENCE AND ASSISTANCE FOR ORANGUTAN RESCUE GROUPS AND CENTRES IN INDONESIA AND MALAYSIA.
BY IT’S ACTIONS THE CHARITY WORKS TO IMPROVE RESOURCES FOR RESCUED ORANGUTAN AND TO IMPROVE WELFARE. IN A WORLD OF INCREASING KNOWLEDGE BASE, THE CHARITY ACTIVELY ASSISTS VETERINARIANS WORKING IN THE FIELD OF ORANGUTAN CONSERVATION THROUGH UP-SKILLING, TRAINING PROGRAMMES AND THE OVAID BRONWYN WATSON SCHOLARSHIP.
THE CHARITY ALSO CONSIDERS IT VITAL TO SPREAD AWARENESS OF THE NEGATIVE EFFECTS OF DEFORESTATION FOR THE ORANGUTAN, COUNTLESS OTHER WILDLIFE SPECIES AND HUMAN POPULATIONS.
THE CHARITY IS INDEPENDENT AND FREE TO CHALLENGE.
OUR ETHOS IS ‘ALWAYS WHAT IS BEST FOR THE ORANGUTAN.’
I came across OVAID when I attended The Ape Alliance Annual Panel Meeting in Bristol, fellow West Country folk, when I asked if they would like to attend, WHEN it was just a atom of an idea, they straight away said YES !!
